"There Has To Be a Better Way"
Many club basketball programs seemingly prioritize quantity over quality and charge exorbitant fees all with a promise of providing skills development.
This was the conclusion Mike Koehler came to in 2021 after experiencing first hand various aspects of club basketball. He thought to himself, "there has to be a better way" and then he founded Mammoth Basketball.
Mammoth Basketball stresses quality over quantity and is committed to skills development for a fraction of the cost of other club programs.
Mike Koehler is the Founder and Program Director of Mammoth Basketball.
Koehler finished his high school career as the 3rd leading scorer in the history of Wisconsin High School Boys Basketball and earned All-State and All-American honors. He played collegiately at the University of South Dakota and is a player member of the Wisconsin High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
In 2019, Koehler became the Varsity boys basketball coach at Elkhart Lake and in his second season the team was the fourth most improved team in Wisconsin (all divisions) and since then his teams have had the most successful years in 35 years of program history including several regional final appearances and a regional championship.
Koehler has completed the requirements to obtain a USA Basketball Gold Coach License.
Professionally a law professor, Koehler is skilled at teaching and conveying knowledge and is committed to player development. For instance, several players he began working with in middle school have been named All-Conference and All-State and have scored over 1,000 career points.
Mammoth Basketball is based in Elkhart Lake, WI and most players in the program attend schools within a 30 mile radius of Elkhart Lake. Many players have joined Mammoth Basketball from more "established" (and much more expensive) club programs.
